Prayers For My Daughters – PROTECTION

Prayers for my daughters - protection

(This is part of a series of prayers for my daughters that I have created to encourage me to pray for them on a more consistent basis. I hope that you will find these prayers helpful as well.)

Just like any other parent, I worry about my daughters. We see daily on the news and in our Facebook newsfeeds the violence all around them.  During this uneasy, uncertain time, I worry about their protection. I want them to be safe and secure.

I worry about them being sexually assaulted.  I worry about them being kidnapped, or being “in the wrong place at the wrong time” when some lunatic with a gun walks into a convenience store.  I worry about them being drawn into following the wrong crowd at school.  I worry about spiders, snakes, and rabid dogs.

Obviously, some of my fears are somewhat irrational.

We worry because we are moms.  We have birthed these little people, and their protection is our sacred duty.  And now they are out in the world, walking among others who don’t care about their safety like we do.  And we can’t control everything, so we are scared by our lack of control.

The truth is that we must surrender their ultimate safety into God’s hands, and trust that He will keep them safe.  It helps me to remember that God created them, and loves them even more than I could ever love them.  He is capable of keeping them safe in any circumstance, regardless of the threat.  Here is a version of a prayer that I pray for their protection.

“Lord, I pray for protection for my daughter. Let her find security and safety in You. Help her to find her hope in You. Allow her to rest in safety, knowing that she is under your protection. Shelter her under your wings, and hide her from the eyes of those who would seek to do evil. Guard her all around with your angels, and let Your protection be like a shield around her.

Let her run to you as her stronghold and fortress when she is troubled, and let her heart trust in You always. Help her to walk in safety. Keep her as the apple of Your eye. Let her be surrounded by your love and peace. Keep her feet from stumbling, and make her paths straight. Allow her to see clearly the way that she should walk, and I pray she would always follow after You.

Let goodness and mercy follow her all the days of her life, and allow her to dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

The best way I have found to make sure that I pray regularly for my daughters is to have a set time and place that I pray.

Of course, I pray for them whenever and wherever God brings them to mind – but it also helps to have a time during the day set aside for prayer.

To help remind me what to pray for, and what I have prayed for in the past, I use this prayer journal.  With 3-month’s worth of pages, there’s lots of room to right out prayers, reflections, etc.

When I write out a prayer list and journal my prayers, I’m able to see clearly when God answers a prayer, or when my prayer focus shifts to new ground.  Keeping track of my prayers helps me be intentional about how I pray, and keeps my focus where it needs to be.

Here are some wonderful verses to inspire you, and guide your prayers as you maintain your focus to pray for your daughter’s protection:

Psalm 91:7
“A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.”

Nahum 1:7
“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; and He knows those who trust in Him.”

Psalms 17:8
Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings

Job 11:18
You will be secure, because there is hope; you will look about you and take your rest in safety.

Proverbs 3:23
Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble.

Would you like some prayer, for yourself or your family? Is there a certain situation you are facing where you’d like some “prayer support”? Let me know, and I would be happy to add you to my prayer list. I know how difficult it is to be a solo mom, and feel like you are totally on your own.  But you’re not – and we can all use prayer from time to time. Prayer requests are never posted anywhere – it’s just between you and me. I simply want to lift up other moms and be a blessing to them. I would be honored to pray for you and your needs!
