(This is part of a series of posts focusing on prayers for my daughters. I have one adult daughter, and an almost-teen daughter. I have prayed for them their whole lives; sometimes I prayed diligently, sometimes sporadically. I wish that I had prayed more frequently, and I am trying to change that now.)
Friends have a big influence on our children. Our influence as parents, though, is most important in our children’s lives, and we owe it to them to use our influence to see that they are blessed with God’s best by interceding for them with our Heavenly Father. One area where are prayers are needed is the friends that surround out children. As my daughters started school, I saw their choice in friends greatly influence the people they were becoming.
Friends – the right kind – can be a huge blessing to our children. They can help them grow closer to God, challenge them to be better, etc. The influence of your child’s friends, whether good or bad, is a matter for our continued prayer and concern.
“Dear Lord, I pray on behalf of my daughter and ask your blessing on her. Help her to desire wisdom, and to seek wisdom in the friends she chooses. Let her not be a companion of fools. Bring into her life friends who are reliable and loyal, who are devoted to her and always seek the best for her.
Keep her from associating with those who struggle with anger, and are prone to rage. Steer her away from them so she won’t learn their bad habits and fall into their traps.
Bring friends into her life that will be able to pick her up when she falls, and I pray she will do the same for them. Allow her to have the support she needs to maintain a strong spiritual life. Don’t let her fall prey to loneliness and despair. Bring Godly friends into her life to encourage her and pray for her.
Help her association with her friends to encourage and kindle a greater desire to deepen her walk with You, and know You better. Impress on her the need to choose her friends wisely and carefully. Keep her from being misled by wickedness and those who encourage it. Help her to turn her back on those who would do evil. Amen.”
